Shards of Alara is an all new expert level expansion for Magic the Gathering. It is the first set in the three part Shards of Alara block, and features the return of Planswalker cards.

- 249 card Expert level expansion.
- Introduces a new level of rarity for Magic, Mythic Rares.
- The Intro Pack makes its debut with Shards of Alara. This new product contains a ready to play 41 card deck, a Shards of Alara Booster pack, a Magic Learn to Play guide, and a Shards of Alara rules insert. There are five different Intro Packs, and each one comes with a preimium foil rare card that is visible through a window on the front of the deck box. The Intro Pack will replace Theme Decks in Shards of Alara and future sets. They are the perfect entry point to the game for brand new players, and serve as an intruduction to the world of Shards of Alara for existing players.
- Shards of Alara is available in 15-card booster packs, 60 card Tournament Decks, Intro Packs, and Fat Packs.
- Premium foil cards and token cards randomly inserted.
- The composition of a booster pack will now be 1 rare, 3 uncommons, 10 commons, 1 basic land, and 1 tip card or token (with the mythic rare replacing the rare in approximately 1 out of every 8 packs).
- With Shards of Alara each card sets fat pack will now include an excerpt of the most current publishing offering in lieu of the previously included set-based novel.
